About Petunia

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Tan, Yellow or Fawn
  • Color: Bicolor

Petunia is a 6 year old female pug. She has the sweetest disposition and is happy anywhere she goes. She likes cats and other dogs. She is fawn with a black mask. She was surrendered to animal control because her owners had neglected her and did not want the veterinary expense of getting her healthy again. It will be at least a month before Petunia is ready for adoption. In the meantime, any donation to help defray the cost of her medical expenses is greatly appreciated.

You can see in the picture that her eyes are coated with an crust caused by a severe eye infection. They actually look 100% better than they did when we first received her. We are currently using medicated eye ointment to clear up this condition. Petunia suffers from a permanent dry eye condition. If this is neglected, she will continue to get these severe infections and eventually lose her vision. She will need prescription cyclosporin eye ointment for the rest of her life. This ointment can range from $20 to $40 a tube depending on where it is purchased. For her, this is an expense that should be put in the same category as heartworm preventative.

Petunia also has a fungal skin infection. This is another result of her neglect. The condition is not contageous, and she is currently being treated. The medication she is receiving will completely clear up this condition. 10/25/11
